Our background

Rooted in the day-to-day realities of midwifery practice

Our team has spent years following the administrative side of midwifery in Germany — from how statutory health insurers process claims to how a small practice keeps its books in order. AZH was set up in Lauingen, Bavaria, to bring that knowledge together in one place.

We are not a public authority and do not represent any insurer or professional association. Everything on this site reflects our own general understanding of common practice and is shared for information only.

What guides us

Principles behind our informational resources

Clarity over jargon

We aim to describe billing and administrative processes in plain language, without assuming prior accounting knowledge.

Data protection first

Any example or illustration we publish is anonymised. We take data protection seriously in everything we describe.

Informational only

Nothing on this site is a binding offer, quote, or paid service. It is general background reading, not individual advice.

How our overview is organised

01

The billing lifecycle

A general description of how a documented midwifery service moves from record-keeping through to a reconciled insurance statement.

02

Everyday practice administration

Background on organising appointments, client files and correspondence within a small, independent practice.

03

Financial record-keeping

General explanations of bookkeeping concepts relevant to self-employed midwives, intended as a starting point before speaking with a tax adviser.
